Poor
Luther's Bones was formed in 1992 within the unorthodox art community
of rural Berks County, Pennsylvania. Seminal founder Garth Forsyth has
maintained a steady creative output over the last decade, having self-released
twelve full length albums of band and solo material. Throughout their
history, critics have praised Forsyth and the Bones for their innovative
music. They have been described by Magnet as a "lo-fi
Flaming Lips...Poor Luther's Bones makes an art rock sound uncluttered
by current fashion". Alternative Press wrote, "Hallucinatory,
with shivery vocals quivering...perfect for picking mushrooms in the
the dark. Get it, get it."
While
Poor Luther's Bones has explored many musical genres in its history,
they continue to remain loyal to a tradition of playing askew to the
inevitable trends of pop music. Unique and uncompromising, Forsyth and
the Bones carve out their own niche on their own terms. 2004 saw the
release of Inside the Outsider which was rated #9 in the top
twenty albums of that year by Fufkin.com and gained praises from
such publications as Pop Matters, Splendid Ezine, Impact
Press and Aural Innovations. Their latest offering, Next
to Nowhere (2005), released on the band's own Heavy G Records
label, again shows the band conjuring up new musical visions in
the psychedelic/pop/rock realm.
Comprised
of Forsyth on guitar and vocals, veteran bass player Leo Scott, hard-hitting
Dan McGonagle on drums, newcomer Justin Vallone on lead guitar, and with
help on keys and production from Dan McKinney (Original Sins, Brother
JT), Poor
Luther's Bones continues to haunt the backwoods of their native Berks
County as well as regular performances in Philadelphia, New York, and
elsewhere. Their live show delivers a versatility that comes with experience,
often bouncing from acoustic to electric instrumentation, as they approach
each song as a new adventure. Often labeled as "Outsider Art",
Poor Luther's Bones continue to break musical boundaries and are truly
a band who deserves to be heard.
